GENERAL TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION:
1. Year End Award Determination – Money earnings vs. points
There have been several discussions throughout the year, but nothing reported in writing as of this meeting. MWRHA had suggested using money earnings, which is how NRHA determines year end champions. Amber Tibbs had suggested that it may be more appropriate to use the “points system” which is used to calculate Affilliate finalists. Several arguments were made for each system, but in the end the group did not feel that one system proved to be more “fair” than the other system. After much discussion, Jim Hundley made a motion to use money earnings. Motion seconded by Angie Honeywell. All in favor, none opposed.
2. Year End Banquet
Sharon Baumgardt looked into the cost of holding the banquet at the Indianapolis Zoo, but the cost was too prohibitive. An alternate suggestion was the Traders Point Hunt Club. Benefits of holding the banquet at the Hunt Club were:
FREE Rental!, capacity, use of their kitchen and PA system, we can hire our own caterer, alcohol is allowed, lodging nearby
Gary Saylor made a motion to hold the banquet at the Trader’s Point Hunt Club. Jim Hundley seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed.
Sharon will call Average Joe to see how much he would charge for a “slide show” presentation for the banquet. Sharon will also check on caterers and bartenders. Brose could help with a bartended, if needed.
Brose suggested that we use the banquet to recognize our sponsors (e.g., sponsor of the year award and/or programs/posters to recognize all sponsors. Gary suggested picture frames with a “Certificate of Appreciation” for each sponsor. Brose suggested that we may have special name tags to recognize our sponsors.
Brose will invite potential 2006 sponsors to the banquet.
Angie reported that Miriam Farrell would be our official banquet photographer (see what you get for not coming to the meeting J).
Brose volunteered to sing the National Anthem at the banquet. I think all were opposed – sorry Brose! Brose agreed that he would be happy just to MC if he couldn’t sing.
3. Year End Awards
Shannon suggested headstalls (e.g., Schutz Brothers have some custom options) instead of buckles. Angie reported that Miriam would rather opt for a buckle if she were to win an award. The group decision was to give a choice, but further discussion will be needed to confirm what choices we have depending upon cost. Ann will check on the cost of the TNRHA buckles and jackets and where they purchased those items for last year’s awards. Two other suggestions were sheets and coolers. We discussed a price range of approx. $100 for Champion awards and $50-$75 for Res. Champion.
4. Affiliate Finals
Tamy Wagman indicated that we could post a banner at the Affiliate Finals to show our support. We will send it to Tammy to post at her discretion. Jim Hundley will check into getting a banner made for us. We will ask Tammy to mail it back to us after the show. Suggested colors were blue and gold for our state flag.
5. 2006 Shows
Brose posed the question about next years shows, especially whether the group wanted to include the Gordyville Breeders Cup as an INRHA approved show. There was some discussion as to whether that show would give someone a much bigger advantage then the other INRHA shows. Randy made a motion to add the Gordyville show. Gary seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed.
Brose motioned that 50% participation in all shows would be a future requirement for year end awards. Ann seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed.
Meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
Next meeting to be determined.
Newsletter to be mailed mid-September by Shannon and Deana.
